Stiv Wilson of 5 Gyres which is renowned for research on plastic pollution in the ocean's gyres and Julie Lawson, executive director of Trash Free Maryland hoist the manta trawler which has samples from the Chesapeake Bay. Wilson was surprised at the amount of plastic in the samples in the first two days of the expedition. If everyone started using reusables we can reduce the amount of plastic in the bay by up to 50% according to Wilson.
